Where Are the Shapes? Position Worksheet

The Where Are the Shapes? worksheet gives kindergarten learners one six-shape board and four writing fields. Children practice shape recognition while using position words: left of, above, right of, and below.

At age six, many children can point to a circle or triangle, but kids can stall when a question asks for the shape beside or under another shape. Combining shape names with location language matters because classroom math directions often ask children to compare positions on a page.

Sit with your child and read one prompt at a time: Which shape is left of the oval? Have your child touch the oval first, slide a finger to the left, and write circle in the answer field. Repeat the same finger-tracing routine for oval above hexagon, oval right of circle, and square below triangle.

The side-by-side layout keeps the board and answer spaces easy to see, so children do not need to hunt around the page. Every question uses the same board, which helps children focus on where shapes are instead of switching to a new puzzle each time.
