Where Are the Shapes? Shape Position Worksheet

Where Are the Shapes? is a one-page Grade 1 math worksheet for shape recognition and position words. Children look at the same six-shape board for every question and write the shape that is above, below, or left of another shape.

At age 6, many children can name a circle or square in isolation, then stall when a worksheet asks for a shape based on location. Practice with above, below, and left of helps first graders slow down, scan the board, and connect geometry words to real placement.

Sit with your child and read one prompt aloud at a time: the shape above the rectangle, the shape above the triangle, the shape left of the triangle, and the shape below the square. Ask your child to point first, say the shape name, then write hexagon, circle, rectangle, or oval in the answer field.

A generic shape page may ask for quick naming only. This worksheet uses one shared board, clear learning models, and open writing fields, so children practice holding the reference shape in mind while finding a different shape nearby.
