Where Are the Shapes? Shape Recognition Worksheet

Where Are the Shapes? is a one-page math worksheet for first graders that practices shape recognition and position words on one shared six-shape board. Children read clues about where a shape sits compared with another shape, then write the matching shape name in the answer field.

Six-year-olds often recognize a circle or triangle in isolation, but position clues can slow children down fast. The worksheet gives children a calm way to connect shape names with location language, including below, right of, and left of.

A parent or teacher can sit beside the child, point to the reference shape named in the clue, and ask the child to move a finger in the direction named by the clue. After the child finds the shape, the child says the shape name aloud and writes the answer on the line.

The page uses the same board for every question, so children practice looking carefully instead of starting over with new pictures each time. The clear learning model and writing fields make Where Are the Shapes? more focused than a generic shape-matching printable.
