Number Words and Numerals Worksheet

Kids often know “seven” when they hear it, but the printed word can slow them down. On this kindergarten math page, they read the number words seven, one, four, six, and nine, then write the matching numerals 7, 1, 4, 6, and 9 in large boxes.

This is a good fit when a five-year-old can count small sets or say numbers from one to ten, but still needs practice connecting words to symbols. Keep it short and screen-free: sit beside them, point to one word at a time, and invite them to say the word before writing the numeral.

The practice works because each item asks for a clear match between a written word and a numeral. If they pause, read the word together, trace the numeral in the air, and then let them write it. The goal is careful number recognition, not speed.

After the page, ask them to circle the numeral they found easiest and underline one to try again. For more number order practice, the missing numbers worksheet helps children look at what comes before and after. When single numbers feel comfortable, the tens and ones worksheet gives a gentle next step into place value.
