Where Are the Shapes? Shape Recognition Worksheet

Where Are the Shapes? is a one-page Grade 1 math worksheet for shape recognition and position words. Children look at the same six-shape board, then write the shape found below the triangle, left of the circle, left of the triangle, and right of the triangle.

At age 6, many children can name a triangle or circle in isolation, but kids stall when shape names mix with location words like left, right, and below. Practice with one small board helps children slow down, scan the page, and connect math words to what the eyes see.

Sit beside the child with a pencil and read the first prompt aloud: "What shape is below the triangle?" Ask the child to touch the triangle first, move a finger below the triangle, say circle, and write circle in the answer field before moving to the next prompt.

The worksheet stays focused on one board instead of switching pictures from question to question. The side-by-side layout keeps the model and writing spaces close, so children spend more time comparing shapes and less time hunting around the page.
